Different types of carbohydrates


Fructose: These apples - Malus domestica - are very high in fructose, a type of monosaccharide. They were found at a farmstand near 3341 Scotch Hollow Road, Newbury VT.


Lactose: This milk is high in lactose and comes from dairy cows - Bos primigenius. Lactose is a disaccharide made from to monosaccharides: galactose and glucose. This picture was taken at 24 Harvey Lane, Westborough MA.


Cellulose: This is a picture of black-eyed susans - Rudbeckia hirta - taken at a near by field 3341 Scotch Hollow Road, Newbury VT. Black-eyed susans contain cellulose, a polysaccharide found in many plants.


Starch: This is a picture of a potato taken at 24 Harvey Lane, Westborough MA. Potatos - Solanum tuberosum - are very high in starch, a polysaccharide made from glucose monomers.


Sucrose: This is a picture of table sugar which comes from sugarcane - Saccharum officinarum. It is a disaccharide made from two monosaccharides: fructose and glucose. This picture was taken at 24 Harvey Lane, Westborough MA.
