Asexual reproduction

Leidy's Comb Jelly- Mnemiopsis leidyi

These jellyfish are capable of self-fertilization; they have gonads (an organ that makes gametes) containing an ovary and sperm bunches in their gastrodermis. The amount of eggs formed relies on temperature of food availability.

Purple sea urchin- Strongylocentrotus purpuratus

Sea urchins can regenerate spines lost through damage.

  1. Vicky, this category is not based upon an organism's ability to reproduce asexually, its based upon you showing an organism that is doing it.

  2. By the way, since you're referring to the production of gametes, your commentary is about SEXUAL reproduction. Sexual always involves gametes, asexual NEVER involves gametes.
