Varying Phenotypes of the Same Trait

Crepidula fornicata
These slipper shells are all of the same species but have a different coloring and patterns, thus having different phenotypes for the same trait, shell type.

  1. I've read about how temperature affects the color and the background affects it but I've never heard that its determined by genes. Do you have a reference for it?
