This is a type of algae. Incidentally, people make drinks out of this.

  1. Drinks? Some type of tea? Does it cure something or is it just nutritional?

  2. It's a juice popular in the Caribbean. It is also thought to have aphrodisiac qualities, and a cure for male impotence. Mostly it's just a thickener, though. This info was all taken from Wikipedia.
